Who am I?
Janelle (Andrea) Schwartz… “JAS.” I am an independent scholar, writer, professor, mentor, project editor, and program designer with over 25 years experience. I hold a PhD in the humanities and teach and speak at institutions and organizations across the North American continent. I work through a variety of disciplines with innovative thinkers and doers, including (but never limited to) community organizers, environmental advocates, farmers, educators, philanthropists, fiction and non-fiction writers, scholars, poets, content producers, arts and culture developers, and entrepreneurs. I thrive on collaboration, interdisciplinary strategizing, and experimentation. And I believe in the power of generosity, the strength of creative and critical thinking, and the necessity of equitable change.
I enjoy working and advising in both nonprofit and for-profit sectors, and I have built
and strategized programs in experiential education, rural resiliency, envirornmental
and articles on topics such as literature and ecology, experiential pedagogy, animal
studies, cabinets of curiosity, environmental catastrophe, popular culture, and
storytelling. And I have had the privilege to teach—and learn from—some of the
When I’m not working, I can usually be found in the garden or in the woods, leading the search for the Forest Yeti and Bog Behemoth with my young daughter, husband, and dogs.
